Finale lyrics font

Privacy Terms. Quick links. I tend to favour a reasonably weighty face that matches the "colour" of the music. Minion is nice, slightly condensed, though the hyphen is a bit mean. Garamond is too small an x-height. Palatino also works well: Medium is better than Roman. ITC Century Book is legible and concise, though not quite convinced by its aesthetics in this use. Other Humanist fonts like Bembo can work well, though they can be a bit fat. Also, make sure they don't have an oblique hyphen. I'll post some samples of the same music with different lyric fonts in a bit.

In the Lyrics class, we go in depth about the lyric tool and its sub-tools. The Lyrics Window has 2 main parts: the tools menu at the top, with options to select the song part type or verse number, and the lyrics field beneath.

Sometimes knowledge and wisdom get lost, only to be rediscovered later. I recently stumbled across some old Finale Tips and forum posts that offer some useful tools for working with lyrics in Finale that deserve some attention again! In August of that same year, Robert had a blog post on using FinaleScript to convert straight quotes to smart quotes. However, there are a few problems with the script as it exists. It must do this independently for both uppercase and lowercase letters, as well as several international characters, resulting in over 80 different comparisons. This results in a very slow script I just timed it at 21 seconds on my main computer , and even as it exists now there are a few omissions from the international characters, and no comprehensive search and replace for an initial apostrophe. If these fixes were added, the script would work in all cases, but the execution time would probably double! After some tinkering, I came up with an alternative script which does not rely so heavily on individual comparisons. Because there are so many fewer direct comparisons that need to be made the script executes much faster. There are some specific instances that this script will not fix, though: Any text string lyric, text box, expression, etc.

I need to have two syllables of different words under the same note. Precisely, the words are in Spanish, and they are "y" and "en". I have found out how to place a slur switch the font to "Engraver Font Set" and type a capital I , but the underscore does not work the std underscore causes the second word to disappear. Anyone who knows a way to accomplish my need? I am using Finale I don't know why you would use the underscore since, to me, the elison makes more sense. But, in order for you to get what you want you have to do as follow: If you are not using the font Times New Roman, you have to change to that font it could be only for the character, it doesn't need to be all lyrics. Then you look for character and double click it.

Figures 1 and 2 show some text boxes and the Lyric Window before and after this script was applied, with the remaining problem areas highlighted:. There are times, especially when working with languages like Spanish and Italian, where you will need to elide multiple words on the same lyric. This is also simple to automate using FinaleScript; I also like to increase the size of the font a bit, though this is a matter of personal taste!

Scripting this is a little bit trickier, though, especially when trying to develop a script that works seamlessly between Mac and Windows I work in both, so I like my scripts to as well! After going down a few interesting rabbit holes hidden text did not work , I hit on the idea of using a glyph that I knew was blank in the Finale Lyrics font and would probably never get used as an actual lyric: The euro symbol!

This works equally well in both Mac and Windows environments. You must be logged in to post a comment. This site uses Akismet to reduce spam. Learn how your comment data is processed.
